Typhoon “Gemei,” the third typhoon of this year, intensified from a strong typhoon to a super typhoon at 8 AM today (the 24th). As of 9 AM, its center is located about 195 kilometers southeast of Yilan County, Taiwan Province, at 23.6 degrees north latitude and 123.2 degrees east longitude. The maximum wind force near the center is 16 levels (55 meters per second), the minimum pressure in the center is 930 hPa, the radius of the seventh-level wind circle is 250-380 kilometers, the radius of the tenth-level wind circle is 100-120 kilometers, and the radius of the twelfth-level wind circle is 55-65 kilometers.
According to Chinese weather reports, the path of Typhoon “Gemei” in its later stages is highly similar to that of Typhoon “Du Surui,” which brought significant wind and rain effects to Quanzhou. Typhoon “Gemei” has a massive cloud body with a dense center and an asymmetrical structure. As its strength continues to increase, it is predicted to become the most powerful typhoon in the Pacific Northwest this year. Be wary of Typhoon “Gemei” heading north, as it may cause extreme rainfall.
Winds in Fishing Grounds and Coastal Areas
- On the 24th: The fishing grounds outside Fujian, the waters of the Diaoyu Islands, and the fishing grounds in Eastern and Central Fujian will experience maximum winds of 10 to 14, gusting to 15 to 16. Southern Fujian fishing grounds will see gusts of 8 to 9, reaching 10 to 12, with the north-central coastal area experiencing 9 to 10, gusting to 11 to 13.
- On the 25th: The maximum wind gusts in the waters of Fujian fishing grounds and Diaoyu Islands will be 10-12, gusting to 12-15. Eastern and Central Fujian fishing grounds will see 10-14, gusting to 15-16, while Southern Fujian fishing grounds and Taiwan shoal fishing grounds will have 8-9, gusting to 10-12. The north-central coast will experience gusts of 9-14, reaching 15-16, and the southern coastal sea area will have 8-9, gusting to 10-12. The sea area near the typhoon center will have wind sizes of 14-16.
- On the 26th: The eastern Fujian fishing grounds, Central Fujian fishing grounds, and north-central coastal sea area will experience gusts of 9 to 11, reaching 12 to 13. Southern Fujian fishing grounds and the southern coastal sea area will have gusts of 8 to 9, reaching 10 to 12.
Weather Effects and Forecasts
According to the meteorological department, starting from the 25th, the typhoon will move deep inland and bring precipitation over the next three days. Additionally, a westerly trough moving eastward in the north will cause the high temperature in the central and eastern regions to gradually decrease. In the south, the hot weather will decrease and weaken from east to west over the next three days, with the 28th expected to be the least hot day in the near future. However, after the 29th, high temperatures will return in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and other places.
